About CalcMate

The calculator you talk to. One microphone, plain words, big clear answers.

What CalcMate is

CalcMate is a free AI-powered calculator. Instead of hunting through forms and buttons, you tap the microphone and simply say what you want to know — “what’s fifteen percent of two forty?”, “how old am I if I was born 15 March 1995?”, “convert five miles to kilometers” — and CalcMate shows a big, clear written answer in seconds.

Prefer typing? There’s a simple “or type it” box that understands the exact same plain words.

What you can ask

  • Everyday math — spoken operators with proper precedence: plus, minus, times, divided by, powers, roots.
  • Percentages — X% of Y, X is what % of Y, and percent change.
  • Discounts & tips — sale prices, restaurant tips and bill splitting between friends.
  • Age & birthdays — exact age in years, months and days; countdowns to the next birthday.
  • BMI — body mass index with a plain-English category.
  • Unit conversions — length, weight and temperature, metric and imperial.
  • Date differences — the exact time between any two dates.

How it works

Your browser transcribes your speech with its built-in speech recognition. Then CalcMate works in two tiers. Tier one is an instant parser running entirely on your device — it understands number words (“fifteen”, “two forty”, “one seventy-five”), operator words (“plus”, “times”, “divided by”) and natural phrasings, and answers everyday questions on the spot, with no network needed. Tier two is CalcMate’s AI brain: anything the instant parser can’t confidently solve is sent as plain text to a free AI service (Pollinations.ai), which interprets the question, computes the answer and returns a concise written result. You never see the tiers — you just get the answer. The written answer is the star of the show; an optional “Spoken answers” toggle reads it aloud if you like.

Private by design

Everyday questions are solved entirely in your browser and never stored — not even a history. Questions the instant parser can’t solve are sent as plain text to our AI provider (Pollinations.ai) so it can compute the answer; nothing you ask is stored by us, there is no account system, and there are no ads watching you. The only thing your browser remembers is your “Spoken answers” on/off preference.

How the content is made

Every word on CalcMate is written originally for this site — no scraped or copied text. The math uses published, standard formulas: exact calendar arithmetic for ages and date differences, the standard BMI formula (weight in kilograms ÷ height in meters squared) with the standard category ranges, and the standard percent and unit-conversion definitions. The parser is tested in code, including edge cases like leap-year birthdays, division by zero and unrecognized questions.

Health-related answers (like BMI) are estimates for informational purposes only, not medical advice.

Who runs CalcMate

CalcMate is an independent side project — no company, no investors, no accounts, no tracking. It’s maintained by its builder as a fast, free tool for the math you do out loud: the tip at the table, the sale price in the aisle, the birthday you’re trying to remember.
