Frequently asked questions
How does the CalcMate voice calculator work?
Tap the microphone and speak your calculation in plain words. Your browser transcribes your speech. CalcMate’s instant parser answers everyday calculations right away; anything trickier is sent as plain text to a free AI service that computes the answer. You get a big written answer instantly — and you can also type your question instead of speaking.
What can I ask CalcMate?
Everyday math (“twelve times eight plus five”), percentages (“what’s fifteen percent of two forty”), discounts and tips (“20 percent off 240”, “split a $120 bill 4 ways”), age and birthdays (“how old am I if I was born 15 March 1995”), BMI (“BMI for seventy kilos and one seventy-five”), unit conversions (“convert five miles to kilometers”) and date differences (“days between 1 Jan 2020 and 15 March 2021”).
Which browsers support voice input?
Voice input uses the Web Speech API, supported by Chrome and Edge on desktop and Android. If your browser doesn’t support it, the microphone is disabled and you can simply type your question — the same parser handles typed input.
Is CalcMate free?
Yes. Every calculation is free with no signup, no accounts and no limits.
Is my voice or my data sent to a server?
Everyday questions are solved entirely in your browser and never stored — not even a history. Questions the built-in parser can’t solve are sent as plain text to a free AI provider (Pollinations.ai) so it can compute the answer; nothing you ask is stored by CalcMate. Your speech itself is transcribed by your browser’s built-in speech recognition.
Can CalcMate read the answer out loud?
Yes. Turn on “Spoken answers” under the answer card and CalcMate reads each answer aloud using your device’s speech synthesis. The written answer is always the star; speech is an optional extra.
